What's in the pack

  • Page 1: a word search with twelve Valentine's Day words in a 12 × 12 grid of big, bold letters. Words go across, down and diagonally, never backwards.
  • Page 2: a word scramble of twelve Valentine's Day words with their letters mixed up, in large letter tiles with a line to write each answer.
  • Pages 3 and 4: a crossword of twelve Valentine's Day answers, with the grid on page 3 and plain clues in 18-point type on page 4.
  • Pages 5 to 7: the answer keys for all three puzzles.

"Word banks" adds the list of answers to the scramble and the crossword, which makes them gentler: good for a mixed group or a first try. "Another Valentine's Day pack" makes a new set of three puzzles.

Ideas for using the pack

  • In the activity room: start everyone on the word search, which needs no explaining, then read the crossword clues aloud and solve them together as a group.
  • At a family gathering: print a pack with the word banks shown for the younger ones and one without for the keen solvers, and see who finishes first.
  • For a quiet afternoon: print a pack to enjoy over a cup of tea, one puzzle at a time, and check your answers at the back when you're done.
  • In the classroom: the word search and scramble suit younger children, and the crossword makes a good challenge for older ones.

Printing tips

  • Use Letter paper (8.5 × 11 in). The pack is seven pages: the puzzles on pages 1 to 4 and the answers on 5 to 7.
  • To keep the answers back, choose to print pages 1 to 4 only, and print pages 5 to 7 separately.
  • Print on one side of the paper, so the crossword's grid and clues can lie side by side.
  • To keep a copy, pick "Save as PDF" as the printer.
  • Free to print and copy for home, classroom and care-home use.
